| This definite contender for best restaurant in Leeds has aptly taken advantage of the regeneration of this once run-down end of Leeds city centre. Situated in the now upmarket area of The Calls at the back of ‘The Exchange Quarter’, it tends to attract a more discerning clientele who know their food, although this doesn’t mean those on a budget are discriminated against, as the prices are reasonable. Wooden floors blend with earthy brick walls to conjure the feeling of warmth and comfort. If you’re lucky you’ll be seated at a table overlooking the river, making your visit all the more pleasurable, especially if its a romantic occasion. As for the food, there's a range of mouth-watering options for carnivores and vegetarians alike. |

| The Calls Grill is no more! Now it's an Argentinean steak house called River Plate, I'd love to tell you how good it was but when we went at 5pm on a Saturday night we were told (in an extremely empty restaurant!) that it was fully booked. When I complained I was told by a very rude blond young girl in designer glasses, "Whatever!". The River Plate's loss was the Brasserie 44's gain. I have to admit the pleasure of good food and brilliant service there smoothed over the rudeness at River Plate. Mike Howell - Leeds, 30/03/07 |
